Enroll a childOnly children from isolated single-parent homes, ages 5-18, can be enrolled in the program. Exceptions can be made based on a professional’s recommendation. You can enroll a child if you are a parent or legal guardian, the family’s social worker or the child’s counselor in school. Enrolling essentially means putting a child on the waiting list. Only once there is a potential match will a full evaluation be organized. Matches are made based on a number of criteria and not on a first-come first-serve basis. While some children can be matched up within weeks, others unfortunately may have to wait more than a year. ParentsWe work closely with parents because their input is important. Not only do they provide information about the child’s strengths and needs, but they approve the selection of the Big Brother or Big Sister. Once the match is made, parents remain closely involved in several key ways. Every child’s safety is very important to usBig Brothers Big Sisters of Israel requests a background check and references from every volunteer. Every match is regularly reviewed by a professional volunteer coordinator.
