Group mentoring project “Green" (2009-2010)

The project goal: To create a Group framework as the basis for a personal relationship between the volunteers (“the big brothers”) and the children (“the younger brothers”).
The Activity will combine personal and group experience, and allow the child to create a personal and significant connection - with the big brother/sister, while concurrently spending time with his peers while not having to "fight" for the attention of the adult who is with him.
The personal contact and attention given to each child will be a source of empowerment for the children, when meeting with their peers.
 
Project content: This project will emphasize the environment. The group meetings will take place around the garden of the “House” in Jerusalem, while engaging on topics related to ecology. This will be coupled with an understanding working in nature, the children learn about their environment, the development cycles in nature, and themselves.

Target population: girls in 5th – 6th grades - growing up in single-parent families.
 
Project Structure: A weekly meeting of an hour and a half on Sundays, which will take place at the “House” in Jerusalem. The meeting will include personal and group activity in pairs. The activity will be led by Noa Rapoport, a social worker in the association.
The volunteers will be 9th -12th graders – from the “Aman” project ("Youth Volunteer City") – run by the Joint.

Mentoring Project in cooperation with "Nesiya"
(for 2009)
Target Population: Children in 4th -5th grades - and from single-parent families could benefit personally from the project. All children live in Kiryat Yovel, Malha and Ramat Sharret neighborhoods.
 
Project content: Weekly meetings on Mondays, between the hours of 16:30-18:30, which will
be held at the “House” of the association in Jerusalem. The volunteers will be 10th -12th graders taking part in the leadership program run by the “Nesiya organization”. The activity began on 1/12/08 and ended in late June 09. The activity was accompanied by Avital Ben - Shalom, from “Nesiya” and together with Noa Rapoport, a social worker from our association.
The activity combined individual and group experience, and allowed the child to create a personal and significant connection - with the big brother/sister, while concurrently spending time with his peers while not having to "fight" for the attention of the adult who is with him.
The personal contact and attention given to each child will be a source of empowerment for the children, when meeting with their peers.



Fun days and activities of the association at branches throughout the country:

A fun Day was held at our Tel Aviv branch on Aug 27, 09 – Extreme Challenge activities in the Ben Shemen forest in cooperation with company “On the ropes " a fun event for forging team spirit for the Tel Aviv and Central Branch workers.


 
The meeting included Omega and sports challenges. At the end a great picnic was held to the accompaniment of a good bonfire.

Barbeque- took place at the "House" in Jerusalem – 4.8.09 - with dozens of pairs from Jerusalem and Gush Etzion, it was both delicious and fun. See link to view the pictures attached

Fun Day at the Tel Aviv branch 2.7.09 – At the “Joshua House” pool. We met in the afternoon, we were in the pool, on the lawns, basketball, ping pong, playing "The wind blows", we raised a glass to the summer holidays (each wished for himself best wishes for freedom and drank a glass grape juice ...) and ate ...It was really a wonderful evening. Fun Day in Jerusalem - was held on 29/6/09 the center for culture and peoples. Volunteers from "Project Martany - Chain of Giving " held a fair for young people, adults and families of the association.
They Enjoyed the Museum of Nature, petting corner corner and the "bee world" .
We jumped on the inflatable toys, we made pita bread, we played bowling, basketball, and more ...

Fun Day in Tel Aviv branch - was held on 2.7.09 at the Joshua House pool. We met in the afternoon, we were in the pool, lawns, basketball, ping pong, playing "the wind blows", we raised a glass of life of the summer holidays (each wished his best wishes for the holiday and drank a glass of new grape juice ...) and ate ... Barbeque- took place at the "House" in Jerusalem 16.6.09. Dozens of pairs met, ate and enjoyed together. Also visiting was Mrs. Lynn Schusterman (Lynn Schusterman Foundation has supported the Society since its founding), talking to teams and staff and saw for herself the varied activities run by us. Fundraising event - held on June 4, 2009 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque,in the presence of the mayor of Jerusalem. The band "Magical Mystery Tour" sang Beatles. All tickets were sold and the audience danced and sang with them. The reception was donated and it was an exciting and successful evening.

Purim Party in Jerusalem 5/3/09 - we celebrated a Purim party with dozens of volunteers and their "siblings". Makeup, paper folding, football, colorful baking cookies (lick your fingers ..), works of art, competitive games and food and light drinks in the yard for an evening full of laughter and fun for all of us.
 
Bubbles Workshop, Jerusalem 19/1/09 - Soap bubbles Workshop for all ages, conducted by Nadav Grant, a Medical Clown and a medical student. The workshop was held on Monday 19/1/09, The business staff slid on the floor and wiped the soap as they went, so that the smiling onlookers wouldn't slip.

Winter Tournament Puzbul at the "house" in Jerusalem January 2009- A Puzbul Tournament (table football), took place on 13/1/08 and with participation of Big brothers/Sisters with the children of the association. Led by the duo" Iti and Ben", it was just great!
Prepared medals, board games, a sign, of course - strict rules meant to be broken (For example – He who curses gets punished – by having to play with only one hand). In short - was funny and fun.
 
A jewelry workshop held in the "House" in Jerusalem, January 09 – A special activity of Big sisters and the teenage girls on 19/12/08. More than ten pairs sat together, and worked, and made their own jewelry.

Chocolate Workshop at the "home" in Jerusalem, - 22/1/09. Many came and ... Licked their fingers with pleasure.

Chanukah Party in Jerusalem December 2008 - Sunday 21/12 A Hanukkah party was held by the young adult siblings, guests and dignitaries. The party was at the "Astro Club" (donated by Moti and Manny for the Event). The party took place with the amazing help of the young Roy Ziv from the organization for Jerusalem, and with credit going also to young volunteers - Roy from karzioke "(karaoke), Boaz from "Magneto" (magnetized pictures) from Udi and Amir from Kafe Agnon (mostly doughnuts) Yoad from "the magical world of ofek" (giant dolls)' and from Adiel frpm "the circle of drummers". Thanks also to Chai ziv who donated entrance tickets for the Gym "Soul & Body", and to Asher Haroush for the signed balls from the players of Jerusalem Beitar team.
 
Hanukkah party in Tel Aviv branch of - Monday 22/12/09, second night of hanukka, the office staff and youth pairs for their first Hanukkah party with games & full of laughter.
 
End of Summer 2008 Bonfire at Tel Aviv branch - was held at Kibbutz Einat with younger and older brothers and branch staff. Everything was done with cooperation by all - keeping the fire, preparing food, activities and games into the night. It was a memorable evening for everyone.

Summer Happenings at the Sacher Garden in Jerusalem 08 - Summer Happenings at the Jerusalem branch were held in the Sacher Garden on Fri 29/8/08 until the late afternoon hours. Extreme sports activities for all ages, group tasks and much good humor and shared excitement. Lunch and refreshments and a magician who came voluntarily.
 
Training events on preventing sexual violence - in Jerusalem. The association sees itself as responsible for raising awareness, encouraged by the international organization - Big Brothers Big Sisters International, the association decided to hold Training days on "Preventing violent sexual assault." Locating and identifying signs of distress. Workshops were held for young brothers according to age in groups and separately for the adult siblings and parents, too.

An evening dedicated to the volunteers association with Jackie Levy and Ariel Horowitz - an evening dedicated to the Big brothers and alumni activities sponsored was held Saturday 21/6/08 by "The Lab" in Jerusalem. Almost 200 people, including guests and dignitaries came to hear monologues, singing and full of humor.

Summer Barbeque - games at the "home" in Jerusalem July 08 just before the big chill .. We ate and sated together on 25/11/08.
 
Jerusalem Beitar's game - just before the Passover holiday tickets were distributed to 25 kids.
 
Tel Aviv branch update - Tel Aviv Branch opened October 07 and runs many activities. Pairs meet on a regular basis, many come and join as volunteers in the activities and there is a successful partnership with welfare authorities in the city of Tel Aviv - Jaffa.

• Trip stalactite cave in the Jerusalem hills + meal in nature - was held on 17/8/07
• Kites construction and flying - Sherover Promenade in Jerusalem - was held on 15/7/07
• Fun Day in pairs in Gush Etzion - took place on 8/7/07
• National day of good deeds - in the fields picking onions for needy families was held on   8/5/07
