Orphans Outreach Program

The death of a parent is a traumatic and painful event that may have a profound effect on the lives of children and teenagers, and as a result they may experience insecurity, anxiety and depression.

In the State of Israel there live an estimated 35,000 orphans, some of them under the age of 18. Most of the children are not recognized by the social services departments, and therefore do not receive assistance from welfare agencies. In a joint venture with the IDF Widows and Orphans Organization and the Jewish Agency, we provide these children and teenagers, who have lost one or both of their parents, risk-preventing social and emotional support, based on our core program model.

During the year, dozens of orphaned boys and girls were accompanied, and dozens more pairings are currently in the process.

Program Goals

Providing emotional, social and risk-preventing support to children and teenagers who have experienced the loss of one or both of their parents. The program provides a long-term solution in the form of personal mentoring in one-on-one social activities. During these meetings, the children and youth will take part in activities adapted to their needs such as personal conversations, recreational activities, acquiring social skills and unique routine-breaking activities. At the heart of the activity is the personal relationship between the mentor and the mentee, who is - for them - a figure with whom they can consult, talk to and lean on.

Alon & Nathan

Meet Alon and Nathan from Ashkelon who just recently joined our family!

As soon as Alon and Nathan met, the connection between them was immediate. They played soccer together, got to know each other and thought together about what they would like to do for their next meetings.

We wish you much success!

Every meeting I have with Dolev is an experience because the connection between us really was so quick and fun, but if we take a moment to reflect on the cool things we did, then there is a moment I think back on, when we went to see a sunset at the beach and collected seashells and had a good conversation and from there we went out to eat. We both realized how much fun we have and how comfortable we feel with each other.

Dolev and I are very similar especially because we both love arts and crafts, so for one of our meetings I brought us materials to make jewelry, and we just made all kinds of trinkets, but the most important and cool thing was that we made a friendship bracelet. A few days ago I found out that Dolev's braclet broke, it's a bit of a bummer, but we will fix it soon!
